Which AMD graphics card would be good for my setup?

Basically I was wondering which graphics card to upgrade to when I have the money. I'm currently using the Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Tri-X OC. Here in the next couple days I'll be getting the Ryzen 5 2600X with 8GB of DDR4 3000MHz RAM (getting another 8GB next month), and the MSI X470 Gaming Pro motherboard. My display is 1920x1080@144Hz (current setup can barely even hit 100FPS). Next month is when I'll be ordering it (tight budget) and I was looking at the RX 580 and Vega 56 but, I was wondering.. which would be better for 144Hz? Would the 580 do okay or would I be better off with a Vega 56? Thanks!

Ideally the Vega 56, you want the extra performance to push the higher FPS for your 144Hz monitor.

Don’t buy 8gb RAM now with a plan to add 8gb later. Only RAM bought as a matched kit (2x8gb) is guaranteed to work together without issues and Ryzen is a little more fussy from what I read.

A vega 56 or gtx 1070 would be good for 1080p at 144hz. Just get whichever is cheaper. However what games do you play?

Hmm. I'm not really sure what I can do about RAM then.. I don't have the money for 16GB (2x8GB) at the speed I'd like and I can't use the RAM I currently have, because it's DDR3. I was going to get 2 4's for now and get 2 4's later but I understand if that isn't a great idea.

Overwatch, TF2, Batlefield 1, No Man's Sky, GTA V, Rocket League, the new Tomb Raider games. Lots of others really.

What's your current cpu?

FX-8350 Black Edition

You are having a cpu bottleneck. In every game but the new tombraider the R9 should easily get 144fps on high settings (gta V and no mans maybe a couple things on medium).

So I've been told. Would the 2600X paired up with a Vega 56 be a decent combo? I mean I was looking to get something newer anyway, I just wasn't sure which direction to go. My monitor uses FreeSync so I decided to go with AMD to keep the functionality, I'm just trying to decide if I should go with the 580 or Vega. From what I've been told though the Vega seems like a better option. Only thing is.. which variant? I've read some things about the Sapphire Nitro+ and the Red Dragon ones. Any thoughts there?
