Which anti virus program?

I currently have Norton System Works for an AV program. It expires next month so I was wondering if I should switch to a better program if there is one thats recommended? I've had the program since 2002 and update it every year so "it's up to date"!

I don't think any other one would be "better".

If you're happy with Norton's job, keep it. The Works package has a lot of features you may miss if you opt for a change.

The regulars in this forum think Avast is the best freebie, with Grisoft's AVG next.

For the money, I like Zone Alarm with it's much smaller foot print, and less obtrusiveness. Computer Associates, McAfee, and Trend-Micro all have good av's. I have no experience with any others.

For the money i recommend nod32, the fastest virus scan ive ever seen and ive tryed a few different virus scanners, and you wont even know its running most of the time since it is so inobtrusive.

For a free virus scanner i agree with pscowboy in that Avast is prob the best available at the moment.

Ditch the Norton, it's a resource hog. The prior recommendation of nod32 is a good one. A few good choices are Trend Micro, Norman, and Panda. Also stay away from McAfee, it gets into too many things and is just too problematic. People can sing whatever praises they want for free antivirus, but I'll stick with a pay program for better protection and more features. Yes, I have seen Norman find viruses and trojans that AVG and Avast did not. Think about it, these people also sell other versions of these programs. If they gave you everything for free, who would ever pay for their other versions.

I install the free vesion of avast on all the computers I service and I have yet to have anyone get infected while using it.

The problem with pay vesions is no one ever seems to pay when the subscription is up, then they get infected.

Actually I lost a lot of money since I started switching people to the free versions of avast, adaware, spybot, zonealarm and firefox.

Usually the pay versions of a program are only offering a feature that is available for free by another program, or the feature is usefull in Enterprise deployments, but not for home users.

Try Avast it not only great but you can get it free only if you're using it for your home system. The professional version will cost you. Also Avast has automatic updating.

I dont know why none of u dont recommend Bitdefender but its the best and i have tried almost everything, Bitdefender security suite is the fastest and most powerful antivirus, firewall anti spam anti spyware program

I'm after some anti-virus stuff for my new pc, so avast is the one to go for is it?? Does it include anti spyware and everything or should I get spybot search and destroy too??

Get AVGGrisoft the free version it is awsome and better that norton corp edition. It has found more than nortan and any other progam i used

Thanks, well, I got avast in the end, did a thorough scan of my hard drive and it didn't find a thing!

another vote for AVG.

not only is it free. But the interface is so plain and simple.

avast was annoying me for some reason, i wasn't crazy about it's stylish interface.


avg is small, simple, and free, constant updates and it just runs really smooth.

Well I use both nod32 and Norton system works premiere 2005. I was told that using 2 anti-viruses could cause some conflict issues. Is this true? Should I just stick with one or something else?

I'd recommend F-Secure Anivirus ... i've been using it and quite happy with it for more than six months and never had any kind of problem, its been light on the OS and very reliable unlike some other Antiviruses software that sometimes intrude on some applications, my second chioce would be Symantec AV Corporate edition.

Well you really didnt answer the questions :lol: . Do you know if it will have any conflict issues using 2 anti-virues software?
