[SOLVED] Which BIOS for x470 Taichi to upgrade from Ryzen 2700x to 3900xt?

Been reading for years - first post!

I am uncertain about which BIOS I should be running when I upgrade from my 2700x to the 3900xt. I recently and finally flashed the board's original bios to P3.30.

I'm seeing a lot of posts about the x470 Taichi supporting the 3900xt like a champ - but they all mention that it's with a later bios, like 3.40.

The ASRock bios download page suggests that if I upgrade to 3.40 now, it would not play well with the 2700x since it's the Pinnacle core.

My plan is to upgrade the cpu. Then once I'm up and running, I would flash the bios. A clean os install will follow.

Will the 3.30 bios support the 3900xt - even if just for this short period between flashes?

Thank you!
Debbie

Solution
According to the above posts, no. You will need to update the BIOS with your 2700X, then swap your 2700X and 3900XT. If the 3900XT doesn't work, you can simply RMA it and then buy another one.

Hi all
Is it possible to install this cpu in a bios 2.0 and then do the upgrade, Today i have just ordered a new cpu the 3900xt and i have the taichi ultimate, the problem is that i never update from the 2700x because it causes some troubles. Im worried because i dont know if the cpu when it arrives it will work.

I would certainly follow the advice and wait until you have your hands on the new CPU. As an update, I flashed the bios to 4.2 with the 2700x and successfully booted into windows without issue. If for some reason your new 3900xt doesn't work, my system functioned fine with the 2700x - for a while, at least. Didn't have any errors, but I also didn't work too long before I installed the new one.
