my friend bought a Dell optiplex 755 small form factor
but with the processor core 2 duo e8400 3.0
optiplex doesnt come with that processor
system runs fine but the fan is at its max speed
and on the start up it says that processor is not supported by system
i checked dell site for BIOS update they have A09 A19 A21 and A22
current BIOS version is A09
but the question is which BIOS version to update to
A09,A19,A21 or A22????
i mean do updates come with same BIOS version number or the number increases??
and also tell me if these two problems vanish after BIOS update or not??

Help would be greatly appreciated!

I updated the BIOS to A19 some time ago. I was not aware of BIOS A21 and A22. I will check and update to A22 if possible.

In your case, I suggest that you update to the latest (A22) BIOS. On the Optiplex 755 the BIOS update is fairly simple and goes smoothly.

CPUs are Q9550, E6750, E2200, (Optiplex) - Laptops T9400, T7250.

For updating the BIOS, go to "support.dell.com" and enter the appropriate service tag number. Then you will see the entire list of possible BIOS updates, drivers, etc.

Select the BIOS update that you desire and from there the website will guide you. Very straight forward process. Follow instructions on the website.

optiplex 755 has mobo with 1066MHz FSB but e8400 has 1333 Mhz . Is the processor being bottlenecked by the mobo???
The pc is for office use and light gaming !
Also is the processor being bottlenecked by 2 gb ram?????

Will work perfectly for office use and light gaming. E8400 - http://ark.intel.com/products/33910/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E8400-6M-Cache-3_00-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

The CPU processes at 3.0 GHz speed (you already know this). The FSB speeds on this motherboard/CPU combination will not create any bottle-necks.

RAM upgrade to 4 GB (32-bit OS), or 8 GB (64-bit OS) will improve performance quite a bit. I have 4 x 2GB DDR2 (800 MHz) RAM on one Optiplex 755 running a Core 2 Quad Q9550 - 2.83GHz/12MB/1333 (This computer runs almost as fast as my i7-920 desktop)

Type 667-MHz or 800-MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Memory connectors 4
Memory modules supported 512-MB, 1-GB, or 2-GB non-ECC
Maximum memory 64-bit operating system: 8 GB
32-bit operating system: 4 GB

If you are looking for speed and performance, I suggest you upgrade the RAM to 8 GBs if you have a 64-bit OS (4 GBs if you have a 32-bit OS).

Yes 4 GB - 32-bit OS systems can access only 4 GBs of RAM of which some is reserved for the system. So, out of the 4 GBs of RAM you will get only about 3.6 GBs for programs.

If you are upgrading get 800 MHz RAM like I posted earlier.
