Hello PC Master Race you have a possible new recruit here, and after two weeks I've arrived at two possible builds. Which build do you think is better in terms of both game performance and general performance such as programming/coding, web design, word processing, internet browsing, video editing etc. I still classify as a noob so any help is greatly appreciated.

Build 1:

AMD FX-8320
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (only getting this because AMD stock coolers are supposed to be rubbish)
Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard
Corsair 8GB RAM (4X2) DDR3-1600
1TB HDD 7200RPM 64Mb Cache
MSI R9 270
Zalman Z11 Plus HF1

Build 2 (£45 more expensive than Build 1) :

Intel i5-4670k
MSI Z87-G43 motherboard
Corsair 8GB RAM (4X2) DDR3-1600
1TB HDD 7200RPM 64Mb Cache
MSI R9 270
Zalman Z11 Plus HF1

Which build do you think is better? Is Build 2 worth the extra money? Thanks in advance all your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Personally id suggest if goig for FX-8350 get some cheap aftermarket cooler anyway, though for FX-8320 at stock clocks its not neccessary, you can stick with stock one.Your choice of CPU is qutie unusual anyway, not saying that FX-8320 will wreck your gaming experience, it wont, just it wont be so smooth and fluid as with i5-4670k,some FPS lost there and here too.

What's so bad about the MSI board (with the exception of the overclocking issue you just mentioned)? The reviews have praised it and it is cheaper than the ASRock board you suggested. To be honest I do not even intend to overclock, I'm just getting the 4670K because it is the same price as the 4670.

Oh so you're getting K CPU and don't plan to overclock? well in THAT CASE ,the MSI board of your choice is not only cheaper, it has plenty more features, sure go for it, no problem then.

Thank you. Quick question though: why did you recommend build 2 over 1. I know that the CPU is better on build 2 but is the difference noticeable? On paper the intel CPU is a lot better but when it comes to actually using the computer I don't think that the increase in performance will be that great, if that makes sense.

well i5s are the kings of the hill when it comes to gaming performance, the difference between them and FXes is pretty massive, especially in CPU intensive games bro, when it comes to video editing, rendering, multitasking, 8-core FX is not only significantly cheaper, overclocked its whole head superior against the i5, so yeah both CPUs are meant for different audiences.

Thank you very much. I'm probably going to go for the 8320, simply because it is better suited to me. This may sound a bit weird but unlike most people I intend to use my PC for games that have released in 2014 and backwards instead of 2014 and beyond, so the 8320 is cheaper and also better suited to my needs.

Now a quick question: How bad are the stock coolers for AMD CPUs? Is it necessary to purchase an after market heat sink if you're NOT planning to overclock?

I've known since the beginning that AMD CPUs are not as good as Intel ones, but I'm 14 and am working on a budget, so that's why I think all in all the 8320 is probably the logical choice.
