I am looking at an MSI monitor which has the following connections on the back

MONITOR: MSI OPTIX MAG321CURV Video ports
  • 1x DP (1.2)
  • 2x HDMI (2.0)
  • 1x USB 3.1 Type C (For DP and Charge)
GRAPHICS CARD MSI GTX 1070 has
  • DisplayPort x 3 (Version 1.4) /
  • HDMI (Version 2.0)

So the Monitor uses DP 1.2 and the Graphics Card is DP 1.4. and from what I've read is that 4k HDR at 60hz should be using DP 1.4.

Thats why I figured using the USB 3.1 Type-C from the monitor and connecting it to DP port using a Type-C to DP cable to be able to get the 60hz with 4k and HDR

what is the best way to connect this? I do light gaming, but mostly watch movies. Is there a type c to displayport that can go from my monitor to the gtx1070?

I'd recommend a 1.4 DP cable, non-mini. While the monitor itself only supports up to 1.2 DP, it's still built to be able to display 4k HDR at 60Hz, so any DP cable rated for 1.2 or higher will work. The reason for choosing a 1.4 instead of 1.2 is basically just for future proofing. If you upgrade to a beefier monitor that utilizes DP 1.4, you wont have to buy an additional cable. DP 1.4 is perfectly backwards compatible with lower ratings and should work on your 1.2 rated monitor just fine.

Hey.

May I ask what you ended up purchasing? And how it's going for you? How are the colours and brightness? What about HDR?

I really want to get the MAG321CURV as my first monitor as it ticks all boxes for me. It's for casual ps4pro gaming. But I'm worried I'll regret it because of some reviewers I've seen on youtube mention "washed out colours" and "low image quality". I mean will I notice such things and is it that bad? Or is it just expert stuff that I really won't see, and the colours are actually good?

I'm coming from an old Samsung plasma 1080p smart tv and Sony BRAVIA 1080p. The rest of my monitor shortlist are the LG27UK650/LG27UL650, Asus VG289Q, and Aorus CV27F. The first three are IPS 4K and the last one is 1080p VA (with really good colours apparently). But none are 32in. (I can't go 1440p cause of dowsnscaling/upscaling issues for 1080p games).

I really want to go for this MSI but now I'm confused from the reviews.

Any feedback or your experience is super helpful and really appreciated. Thanks.
