I'm buying a cheap video card but I don't know which is better. The geforce fx5200 128 mb or the radeon 9200 128mb. Both are only around $60 but I just want a getter by til I buy a new system

Ti4200 is HIGHLY recommended

If you really can't spend extra $20, then buy Radeon 9200. Make sure that it's only 9200, not 9200SE. FX5200 is a better choice than Radeon 9200SE

Agreed, the Ti4200 is the best in that price range. However, if not that one, I'd look at getting a 9100. This is actually just a rebadged 8500 that has been tweaked very slightly, putting it second I think. They are cheaper than the 4200. Get the 64MB mermory 9100 though, as the 128 use slower memory.

Go for the Ti 4200, but look up the speed of the memory. I heard that the 64mb versions were a bit faster than some of the 128mb ones becuase those used slower memory.

That is true, to a certain extent.

The first 128MB Ti4200's that came out (AGP2X/4X) were memory clocked at 222MHz (444MHz DDR) compared to the original 64MB ones at 250MHz (500MHz DDR).

Later, they released the Ti4200 with AGP8X which is memory clocked at 256MHz (512MHz DDR).

However, this is all at STOCK speeds. The 64MB Ti4200's, if I'm not mistaken, use 3.6ns memory which would mean they should overclock quite nicely compared to the 128MB Ti4200's that have 4.0ns memory that is 'factory overclocked' by 6MHz (12MHz DDR) out of the box, and likely has less headroom for overclocking.

I know, if you look around hard enough, you can find 128MB ones with better memory, and even special edition ones that are clocked way higher.
