Yep, Newegg is not on my Top 10 List. In Oct. '18, around a couple of years after they were bought up, they screwed me on an exchange. Even the CSR was surprised that the supervisor didn't override it! Story details at end of post, for those who want them.

From 2002 until they screwed me in 2018, Newegg was Just It for me. I would always shop around a little, but I had confidence in them, and they never let me down whenever I had a problem. My purchase total was well over $15K.

I occasionally buy from them because I don't take things THAT personally. I just don't trust them like I used to. I'd like to know what the best options to Newegg because I am thinking about dropping around $2500 on a machine for flight simming in the few months,

What matters to me is price, selection, search/filter tools, shipping times and reliability, and of course, not screwing their customers.

Who do you like?

Here is how Newegg screwed me. In October, I ordered a complete desktop system. The motherboard came with a "free" 120GB SSD, but the mobo's CPU slot was defective. I got customer service on the phone, and the rep agreed to a cross-ship return. However, they withheld ~$50 because I didn't include the "free" SSD with the defective motherboard. Their position was that I should have returned both of them to get an even exchange for a non-defective motherboard.

Now you can use Google to do you’re searching and then narrow it down once you find the products you want on Amazon
I'd check to see if there is a local MicroCenter in your area. Rather than ordering online, I'd drive up to 50 miles to a MicroCenter (fortunately, I don't have that far to go). If not, then I'd go with Amazon (as long as I'm ordering direct from Amazon and not some third party marketplace). For extraneous components (cables and such) I go with monoprice.com

Unfortunately for you, Newegg has the best search and filter setup I've ever encountered....by far.

Amazon's search and filter is decidedly inferior, but other than that I have not had issues with them when buying DIRECT, not through a third party seller.

I've had good luck with B and H Photo out of New York, although I have not ordered a lot from them. Not as many products offered as Amazon, but pretty good search setup.

That's standard practice. Newegg and others don't list individual items in a combo deal, a combo is a combo, it's One item in their system. So if you return an individual part of the combo, they can only accept it using current pricing, there's no arbitrary assignment of a cut rate price and rma's are dealt with at full/sales price of the individual item. In your case, that meant a $50 ssd was not returned, so they withheld $50.

It's stated in the rma, return everything. Newegg didn't screw you, you screwed yourself by not reading the instructions and following procedure directives.

Same works for Dell, Lenovo, HP, everyone. You buy a pre-built pc, even if the tech agrees its a bad ram stick, you have to return the entire pc, not just the ram stick.

You're going to defend Newegg? Really? "Standard practice" is the same as "everyone does it" and that is not an excuse.

Newegg's online boilerplate says they do not do cross-shipments, but when I set up the return, my exact language with the rep was "cross ship" and he specifically said I didn't need to return the SSD, so this wasn't a failure of "following procedure directives."

You don't know the specifics, including the timing of the mobo/SSD combo. It was still active when I called to make the return. Since the rep said I didn't need to return the SSD, Newegg did screw me.

Even after I brought this to their attention, the returns manager chose to screw me. You did read the part about the CSR sounding surprised and embarrassed, right?

you didn't include that they said you didn't need to return the SSD in your first post. Even if a guy said you don't have to I honestly would cause neweggs website always says all items in a combo need to be returned.

Combo and Kits Purchases

Combos and Kits include two or more items that must be purchased together in order to receive a discount. Items sold as part of a Combo or Kit may be returned individually for replacement within the applicable Newegg Return Policy Period for that individual item.

If an individual Combo or Kit item is returned for a refund, the applicable discount will be voided, and the discounted amount will be deducted from the amount of the refund. If your Combo/Kit discount amount is greater than the individual unit price of the item you wish to return, then the item cannot be returned for a refund by itself; you will need to return all items in the Combo/Kit or return it with other items of value in order to receive a refund. For example, if your Combo/Kit discount was $5, and you return one of the items for a refund, the $5 will be deducted from your refund amount. Some combos are restricted from returning individual products for a refund and must be returned in their entirety. Please see combo product page for more specific information.

That's newegg official rma directives. Black and white. It's simple. And newegg afaik does not cross-ship, you send the item, it gets checked for user abuse and the rma is either approved or denied based on those findings. If in doubt, go watch the gamersnexus YouTube vids on newegg, and how the rma process screwed them, and hard.

So the only answer as to the embarrassment I can give is the CSR got caught speaking out of his rear and had no idea what he was actually supposed to do. I'm not defending newegg at all, they did screw up, by either not replacing the item, or by telling you that you could keep the SSD but not telling you that you'd be charged for it.

You got money back. That's a return, not a replacement. A replacement/exchange doesn't involve payment of any kind. You honestly think newegg or anyone else would let you just keep a $50 SSD for free and only return half the combo kit and get a full refund?

That's on you, not newegg.
