8700k w/3090 ti or 12700k w/3080? I have gotten different answers from different people. I have an 8700k and a 3080 but i ordered a 3090 ti ,but some people are saying i should send the 3090ti back and upgrade CPU and MB and keep the 3080. All i do is game and want better performance in games.

my system now =
msi gaming m5 mobo
32gb corsair 3000 cas 15
8700k
3080 ftw3 ultra
ssd's

edit : i gamie at 4k and 1400p

Are you aware that the RTX4000 series are probably less than a month from launch?

I could also see a good upgrade being the Intel 13th gen launching soon. But that would also require DDR5 purchase.

Other than that. (3080 -> 3090Ti) Weigh the 25% FPS increase against (100W more) power draw and (roughly 2x) cost. Up to you.

Are you getting good FPS with 3080 and everything is running smoothly then if you are then there no point on getting 3090ti that will cost you alot to only gain extra performance. So do suggest that keep 3080 and upgrade motherboard and cpu and ram and PSU then you could save abit more for new GPU in near future!. Also prices will be coming down soon when 13th and 4090 and such coming out because just checked uk prices and some 3090ti are on sale

What is holding back your game perf with what you have?

3090ti would give an upgrade but I’d consider returning it since new cards from nvidia and amd are not far off. Then you could either pick up a newer card or perhaps the 3090ti will be on sale. But you are coming due for a platform upgrade considering that the 8700k is spot on par with a ryzen 3600 give or take, probably slightly faster.
