Which Cooler for 4790k?

I have a 4790k and Z97 pro that I run stock or almost stock. It runs 4.0-4.4ghz turbo on 1.216v. I currently have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, and even at 1.2v, it gets to 70C while just gaming regularly.

I would definitely like it under 60, but want to spend around 50-$110 on a cooler. Would an AIO cooler be the best solution?
Can I just use a Noctua D14 and match an AIO cooler's results? Tom's Hardware claims AIO's are much better:

What cooler should I get? Can anyone back up their advice with results too?

Check if the thermal paste is correctly applied or not, first. If you think its dripped out, just clean off the one already there and apply a pea sized amount evenly.
What load (in approx %age from Task Manager) is on your CPU while you get those temps?
Lets see if we can solve the issue before spending out for a better cooler :)

Yeah, people say this cooler works like magic... but I know many others who get these same temps with the 4790k with my cooler :/ even people in Newegg's reviews

I used the pea size method when I installed it, not too much, not too little thermal paste. I even used MX-2 thermal paste, which is able to beat Artcic Silver 5.

I get to 68C or so while normally gaming, but games like BF4 I get to 70-71C, using roughly 70-80% of my CPU. Prime95 can push me to 80C.

I see you have an H110, and VERY similar hardware as me (same cpu, same GPU, a Z97)
What voltage/settings do you use with your 4790k? how hot does it get to?
also how is 4k running on our single 290 Tri-x? my 290 can't even keep 60+ in some games in 1080p. You run all low settings in games?

That's warm temps but not alarmingly high. I'd really want to ask about the case you currently have and your airflow orientation. CPUs with stock cooler go to 72-80C when Prime testing on 100% load, turbo enabled.

Well, My OCed CPU is stable at 4.5GHz with 1.25-1.28VCore. Never got hotter than 71C after running Prime95 for 2 hours. 67-71C on full load, which's pretty decent considering my ambient temps are 30-40C w/o air conditoner which can't be kept ON 24/7.

I actually can run 30-40 FPS on most games on high-ultra. I play on Medium with AA, Shadows and lighting on high with 40+ FPS even in intensive BF4 multiplayers. 40-50 FPS in general on medium-high.

Also, I've a FHD monitor lying around and I've tried my build on that, got 60+ FPS on BF4 Ultra 😀

PS: I actually follow this settings on BF4 on 4k and get 30-40 FPS:

*With AA deferred ON at 2x.

Hmm... yeah, I have this case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

it's got a lot of mesh, so there's plenty of breathing room. Airflow can't be the issue, I have 3 120's pulling from the front, 2 140's on the top exhausting, and another 120 in the rear exhausting. Very nice Wind tunnel airflow. the Tri-X cooler isn't that hot, so I can't say its the card's fault, it only gets to 77C. (btw, how's your 290 tri-x run? you oc it? temps?)
also have 2 120's on the Evo 212 itself, and the cooler seem's solidly installed. :/ what do you think I shoud do? I can't OC any with this cooler as it is now.

Then airflow isn't an issue. My Tri X crosses the 75C mark but very rarely. Full load is usually a 70-75C affair, thanks to extensive airflow within the case :)

I understand that everything seems right but is not going in the right direction. Tried re-applying thermal paste?
EDIT: No OC on my GPU.

Hmm, I'll have to try reapplying it, even though it felt pretty solid on installation. Cooler is always cool to the touch though :/ maybe not enough contact?

If that doesn't work, what else should I do?
What other cooler would you recommend in the $70-$100 range currently? 4.4ghz is plenty, but I want to keep the cpu cooler, and plan on an OC to 4.6ghz with like 1.25-1.27v in the future. I was thinking Noctua D14 for air, but would an AIO be a smarter move? I kinda like Air coolers cause its never defective, there's no fuss after installation, it just works :/
