Which CPU for gaming?

I'm building a budget gaming rig for my brother and aren't sure which CPU would be better to choose.

Or

Intel i3-6100

The best graphics card that I would put in this pc is a gtx 960 if that helps with anything.

The i3 is better for gaming. The GTX960 is a poor buy these days unless you get one for really cheap.

I would definitely go with the i3-6100. Even though the AMD is an eight-core and the Intel is only a dual-core, the i3 should crush it in every game. Games only use 2-4 cores, and the i3 has hyperthreading which allows it to act like a quad-core. The i3 has more powerful cores, and that is better than lots of cores. Not only that, but with an i3, you can get DDR4 ram opposed to DDR3. The i3 will allow you to build a much better, and more future-proof system overall. Hope I helped!
