Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new processor for my music production pc. I use quite a bit of vst plugins and vsti's. I currently have a 4790 non k. I was wondering what would be the best upgrade path for my for around $500 us? is ryzen actually good for music procuction? or microcenter has a 5820k for $280 is that a good deal? thanks guys

You're not going to get a good upgrade option for your budget. A Ryzen system will cost more than that as you need a new MB, RAM, and the processor. What kind of issues are you running into? What's the need for the upgrade?

I am just getting long load times on projects with lots of effects going. Like 2-3 minute load times. I was hoping to cut that down in half maybe. I was looking to spend $500 on just the cpu, not factoring the extra $200 for a mobo and the coupel hundred it would cost to get new ram and a cooler.

I have all my effects and vst's installed on my nvme ssd, but I have a dedicated 128 gb sata ssd for my session data. The only other hdd I use is to store my sample libraries on, but it's a 7200 rpm hdd and I read around that that is plenty fast enough for loading samples.

For samples use ssd only
