1080p gaming is a mixed bag and depends on what the API partnered with. Some titles have a 9600K above a 3700X while others it fairs below a 3600 by a slight margin.
1440p gaming and above your offloading more work to the GPU and the margin narrows depending on how powerful the GPU is. Because of the lack in a cooler the AMD chips just flat out offer a better value, the coolers may not be good for someone looking to max overclock but for the standard user that allows the system to set its own clocks, they do pretty well for an OEM.
