Which CPU is better for Gaming?

8350 or i5 3570K or i7 3770K?

I'm building a rig for my friend and there was debate over which CPU would be the best bang for his buck in his build.

He's primarily going to be playing high end games such as BF3, Crysis, etc. and the budget for his whole build is about $1500.

Which CPU would be the best choice?

Side Note: He's Gaming with a 7970 Ghz card or better depending on CPU choice

You cant go wrong with a 3570k, great performance, nice overclock room.

Also, the i7 3770K is more money because it has a feature called 'Hyperthreading' which games don't use, only professional graphic design programmes do. Because of this, there is a virtually 0% gaming difference between the i5 3570K and the i7 3770k. So if you are just gaming, save the money and get a i5 3570K and overclock it like Opaz1ka said

The 3570k.

8350 is decent, but the i5 is better for gaming and close enough price wise.

The 3770k is basically an expensive i5 with hyperthreading. Since games don't really utilize hyperthreading, save some money on the i5 and put it into your GPU choice.

I5 3570k for gaming. I7 is more for rendering, photoshop etc

The i5 3570k is the best priced CPU for what you need. The i7's Hyperthreading is only used on games that use more then 4 threads (BF3 does but it's only like a %10 performance increase for %50 more money). The i7 is only worth it if you don't care about the cost and you just wonna get something good.

Best Choice: 3570k
Second Best Choice: 3770k
Third Best Choice: 8350

In most games, Intel's Core i3 2120 beats AMD's HIGH-END processors like the Phenom II X6 1100T and FX-8120!! The dinky Athlon II X4 doesn't have a chance!

You just made the AMD CPUs look way worse then they are. The i3 can beat most AMD CPUs in single core performance. If your planning on playing games on BF3 when your on a budget then something like this is a lot better deal.

Lots of science and engineering software and algorithms are massively multi-threaded too, which is what Xeon Phi's 240 threads per CPU and supercomputers are for.

Graphics rendering/processing and video editing are just more common in the mainstream but are far from being the 'only' thing.

I would go for i5-3570K. If i had more money and i would not care where to spend it, i would go for i7. And if i wouldn't play CPU dependable games like skyrim or other mmo's which are designed for <=4 cores, i would go for 8350 because i hate INTEL fanboys.
