You won't be able to tell the difference in performance by today's standards. The Q9550 is better in my opinion because it's the newer architecture, less wattage, and more cache.

This site does a head to head comparison, where the q9550 does barely edge out the qx6850. They're in a virtual tie, and both rather old.

I would think the QX6850 Extreme would be faster but they are in a dead heat. The Q9550 is newer so it has that advantage. Buy whichever has less use and wear, if used and is cheaper.

You should buy something newer!

Just to make sure, you do have a LGA 775 socket motherboard right? You're not going to try and put the Q9550 in your current motherboard? That won't work.

Yeah, its in an Asus P5N32-E SLI 775 motherboard. I had to get it because my current motherboard broke.
