I'm looking at getting a AMD Ryzen 1600x or a Intel i5-8600k. I plan on gaming a 4k so should I give with the Intel or the AMD? Will the performance be that different between the two at that resolution?

Solution
If you're going to be gaming at 4k, it won't make a bit of a difference which one you go with. It's all going to be up to whatever your gpu is - which I hope you don't cheap out on. 1080ti recommended. 1080 can work too, but fps won't be as consistent.
Go with the 1600 non x. Cheaper than 8600k, and comes with a good cooler to boot. The 1600x isn't worth the premium for a minuscule couple hundred mhz more, plus doesn't come with a cooler.
I would probably pick the R5 1600X. At 4k the difference in performance will be VERY minimal between the two since the majority of the load is put on the GPU. The 6 extra threads will be useful in other applications and the performance gain will be very minimal by going with the 8600k.
