I don't know if it's worth spending the money, but that's your choice. The i7-3770K is the best CPU they made for your motherboard's socket, and depending on your motherboards chipset, it can be overclocked. However, if your PC is a prebuilt, look up the manufactures specs to make sure it even supports the CPU as some won't.

3770, there's no doubt performance will increase considerably and smoother in games because it has hyperthreading. Could use your current cooler like this guy repurposing his cooler from an i3. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/cheapest-cooler-for-i7-3770.3314262/

Get another 8GB 1333 stick for dual channel.

Will need to reapply fresh thermal paste. Get a tube of Noctua NT-H1. Some isopropyl to clean off old paste.

What is the make/model of your motherboard?
CPU-Z will tell you.
What processor upgrades are supported?
The i5-1330s is a low power version of the processor and that may be all that can be supported.
It was often included in low budget oem pc's.

If your 8gb of ram is in the form of a single stick, going to 16gb dual channel is a cheap modest upgrade

I would not reuse the cooler from an s CPU in a i7. The i7 CPUs use a similar cooler, but have a copper "slug" in them. If this is a pre bought "name brand" tower then you might have issues getting other CPUs in there. It might work, but it might not.

I do agree with the above. Take a look around for anything newer. Your system is very old. Anything from the last few years will game better than what you have. And will have newer tech in the motherboard as well.

i7 3770; upgrading to 16GB RAM and a used 1080Ti if your PSU supports the wattage would be my reccomendation. Even my old first gen i7 900 series CPUs still scale up to my RX 7900XT and RTX 3080Ti; let alone my i5 3570K; and your platform is much newer than the 900 series CPUs.

You can get an i7 3770 for under $40; 1080Ti for under $170. If you need a new cooler then the Thermalright Assassin X SE 120 does a great job for 18 bucks. All depends on price range I guess.

The i7-3770 goes for just under $30 on eBay. The 3770K is more expensive and not necessary. It would be a fun project if you are interested in upgrading your computer. Make sure you are running dual-channel RAM.

This is a good point. That stock Intel cooler without the copper core is not as efficient at cooling as the one with it and will likely find some thermal limitations in some CPU intensive games. You also may not be able to install a backplate bracket for a more modern CPU cooler. You can buy copper CPU coolers without a backplate for around $25 such as the Arctic Freezer 7 X. But, now you are spending more money on a very obsolete system that is quite limited in customization due to being OEM. Either way, it's your choice. It's still much cheaper than a new Core i3 system.
