right i am having abit of trouble picking a new cpu to get. I am looking to switch from AMD to intel and i am struggling to chose a CPU and motherboard.
This is my current setup:
CPU : AMD Athlon x4 860k
Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3
Graphics card: AMD HD 7870
RAM: 2x8gb of Vengence
PSU: Corair TX650W
Windows 10
so i have looked at the i3 6100 but get this with a new motherboard and new ddr4 ram would cost me alot. ive also looked at the i3 4170 and the g3258 and overclock it. i just want a good idea on a good cpu for the price that performances equal or better the AMD one i have. any other suggestion on Intel cpus and motherboards?

Solution
I would just bite the bullet and get the i3 6100. You'll need the hyper threading in certain games where the Pentium will cause stuttering. If you live near a Microcenter, you can pick up the i3 and motherboard in a combo really cheap.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($110.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H110M Pro-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($46.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($31.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $189.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

There are Skylake MB's that support DDR3 and you could save money that way by using your current kit or you could buy DDR4 and sell your current CPU/MB/RAM as it would be better for a potential buyer since all the parts are there and everything is compatible.
