I am building a new pc and I was thinking of going AMD - AM5, The main purpose for this pc will be for 1440p ultra gaming.

I don't really have a budget for this build so any suggestions about the build will be appreciated.

I currently have a new Kraken Elite 360 AIO for the CPU

This is what I am considering to get for the build
CPU - 7950x3d (Is this overkill/a waste of money for high FPS 1440p gaming ?)
GPU - 4080 Rog Strix White
RAM - G.Skill Z5 2 x 16GB DDR5 6400 CL32
Motherboard - Asus Rog Striz X670E-A Gaming Wifi

One this I was also unsure about was the PSU, what I had in mind was the Corsair RM1000x 80 Plus Gold

Thanks in Advance for any response.

I think the 7950 will be better than the 7800 but not 300 bucks better.
It's your wallet.

if its just gaimg, the 7800X3D is all you need.

You dont really need the X670E board. a Good B650E board like the Asrock Riptide will do the job just fine. it got the pcie 5.0 SSD slot.

Dont spend the money on ROG tax, a good overclocked card is more than enough. And i think there are cheaper cards that look better than the Strix.

the RMe 850, TT GF3, MSI MAG 850 PCIE5 all are ATX 3.0 psu with 16 pin connectors.

I'd slow roll it & go with a 7800x3d unless you need the cores for productivity.

Figure 8xxx series are coming soon. The 8xxx (non x3d)series CPU's are rumored to be as fast as the current 7xxx series X3ds. Anyway I'd save some coin for upgrades in a year or 2 when we have had another generation or 2 into AM5

Ram wise I thought 6000 was the sweet spot for 1:1 infinity fabric clocks. 6400 may e a little optimistic

7800x3d actually beats the 7950x3d in some game benchmarks.

The 7950x3d is a very strange cpu with only 1/2 the cores...the slower ones actually..having the cache. They are using xbox gamebar to try to get the game to run on the correct cores but it can have issues with games that are not as popular. Of course you can use the brute force method of parking all the cores that do not have the cache.....but then you pretty much made a 7800x3d that you paid too much money for.

The 7950x3d is a better match if you were to sometimes do none gaming stuff that benefits from higher clock rates.

I would save the money an use the 7800x3d unless you have a reason not to.

It also depends on the game. You are going to be GPU limited in say cyberpunk running 1440 on high setting, especially if you use all the fancy ray tracking the 4080 can do.

What is your current system?
Are you planning to reuse any parts?
At 1440P are your games fast action shooter types, or more cpu limited like sims, mmo or strategy games.

Looking at a 7950X3d would indicate a maximum budget.
If so, I say go for it and buy the best processor available.
Anything less and you will be forever second guessing yourself.
That said, I have my doubts about the 7950X3D or the X3d versions in general.
This linus video gives me pause:

With the release of the I9-14900K I think that would be a safer bet.

You may want to look into a stronger graphics card for high resolution gaming.

Corsair rm1000 should be able to handle anything.
Any psu with a 10 year warranty is likely to be of very good quality.
