Which CPU should i go for? 4th or 5th gen?

I want to build a new gaming computer but cannot decide if I should go for the 4th gen i7 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369&cm_re=Intel_Core_i7-4790K-_-19-117-369-_-Product) or the new 5th gen I7 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117402&cm_re=intel_core_i7_5820k-_-19-117-402-_-Product) Which architecture, cores and ghz is better for a gaming pc? Technically speaking the 5th gen is actually a 4th. it says 5xxxk but it is still called a Haswell-e. Anyways, it doesn't just come down to the CPU. It comes down to the platform you will be using it on. For instance, LGA2011-3 supports DDR4 while all of the LGA1150 boards don't. Please keep in mind that DDR4 is not better than DDR3 at the moment. That is, it isn't beneficial for gaming. Is price an object? If not, I would definitely go for the 5820k. Far more future proof as games will begin to use more cores. I am running a 4790k because it is already completely over kill. And adding two more cores to that would be even more over kill.

Buying the 5th gen means you will have to buy DDR4 RAM, an expensive motherboard and it won't even benefit you in gaming since x99 is mostly for workstations. Do yourself a favour and buy an i5-4690K with a Z97.
If you're only gaming the i5 will do great. Don't waste money on an i7 since it brings no more than 1-2 FPS.

Yes, it only makes that much of a difference now.. how about in the future though? No one has a crystal ball to tell the future.

Games running on 4 vcores are forseeable in the future; games running on 6-8 vcores are not.

Going with a 4690k or 4790K will allow you to spend more on GPU(s).

@GameEtiquette Games already use 4 cores.. It isnt that uncommon. Its rare that SP games will find use in 8 threads.. However they do benefit with more cores in massively multiplayer matches.

OK, maybe not for that long, but i5-4690k is capable of playing every game if paired with a good GPU.
It can certainly be useful for atleast 3-4 years. And it's also overclockable.

I am aware that a few games currently use 4+4 cores via hyperthreading. I'm trying to say that it's unforseeable that any game would take advantage of the 5820's 6+6.

If they dont take advantage of more cores then why would the 5820k perform better than a 4790k.... The 4790k has a far higher clock speed.
