I'm building a new rig, trying to spend around 1k, not too much more. ($1,200 tops) and I was just wondering, is the i5 4690k the better option or should I go with the i7 4770k? I've heard that the 4770k isn't worth it because I won't be pushing it to it's limits, so why waste the money. Any help is appreciated in advance! Thanks!

Solution
for pure gaming: i5
for video rendering/gaming:i7

if you just want to game with it, spend the extra cash for a better gpu and get i5. If you don't plan to overclock get the non k cpu

Depends on the main uses of the system. For just gaming go with the 4690k. If you are editing or doing anything else that's going to use more than 4 threads go with a 4790k over the 4770k. The 4790k is a little newer and little faster and cost just about the same of not a couple bucks less.

I plan on 90% gaming, but there will be the occasional video edit/render, and I still haven't decided yet on overclocking.

You can save money going with i5 non k because going with k series, you have to get a board that can overclock like the z series boards which is more expensive than h97 or other chipset. Spend the saved money with a gtx 970 or 980 IMHO
