Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition vs AMD Athlon 860K

Firstly I will not be doing ANY gaming or overclocking with either of these processors.

I will, however, be using the system for light productivity (MS Word/Powerpoint etc.).

So... Yeah... Which one?

Solution

You missed the point where he says it won't be used for gaming.

Fast single core speed useful for the basic stuff like browsing, Microsoft office and all that plus the stock CPU cooler that comes with it is better...
The Pentium anniversary only because you be be on the lga 1150 platform which will leave you lots of room to upgrade should you decide the Pentium is not powerful enough for your needs. The Pentium anniversary G3258 is a cpu that is just begging to be overcloked and gains a lot from being overclocked just saying.

I agree this is probably the better buy if you dont plan to overclock.

Thank You, Will probably go with that...

Just because I'm curious what advantage would a pentium have over the athlon? (Was told that more cores were better for this workload?)

And again thanks.

Not to mention that besides It's cheaper you get better performance. Win win.

Nothing, to be honest the only reason i would recommend the Pentium is because its newer and on the lga 1150 platform which like i said provides a lot of upgrade paths. But the Athlon is probably the more powerful i doubt you would notice the difference if you just use word and powerpoint.

Finally an answer that is definitive... (You wouldn't guess how many times i asked this question and got so many different answers like fx processors and crazy a10 solutions)

Thank you so much.

My final question: can you see programs requiring 4 cores in the future?
