Which CPU should I use?

Hello all,

I am a technical novice building my first Desktop PC. It's primary functions will be for gaming at moderate quality (1080x1440, 50-60 FPS), programming (Networking and Coding), some graphics development, and basic work applications (Google Drive, Word, Skype, Web, etc). I am considering either the Intel Core i5 6700k or the i7 6700k as my processor. Does one of these processors hold a distinct advantage over the other, and in what ways?

The I7 will not hold a distinct advantage over the I5 in gaming, let alone much advantage at all.

The i7 will be very similar to the i5 in performance.
