I recently picked up a GTX 580 (1.5 GB) for 100 €.

My rig is ready for it, except the CPU (Athlon II X2 245 @3.3GHz cooled with a 212 Evo, and AM3 Motherboard)

I am not sure which way to go now:

  • ■ Used Phenom II X4 955 BE (3.2 GHz) for 65 €
    ■ Used Phenom II X4 970 BE (3.5 GHz) for 72 €
    ■ Used Phenom II X6 1090T BE (3.2 GHz) for 115 €
    ■ Used 2500K + Asrock Z68 Fatal1ty Gen 3 for 200 €
    ■ New 4670K + Motherboard for ~300 €
    ■ Wait for the Haswell refresh, we willl see by then

What would you do?

Main usage will be gaming at 1080p, Watch Dogs is the most demanding game on my mind right now. (I am not a BF or CoD kind of guy)

Further details:
8 GB RAM, PSU Seasonic 650W, SSD 120G (OCZ Vertex2...not a single problem, surprisingly enough! Since late 2010).
Motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/M3A785GM-LE128M/

How much are you willing to spend? If money is tight, the x4 for 65 is good. Should get you through most titles ok. More so if you OC it to 4GHz. Otherwise I'd get the 2500k. ~200 isn't bad with a board, and should OC to 4GHz as well. (4.4 is doable...) That setup is still comparable with modern 4670 setups. It's what I would get if you had the money.
well, you cant get too much better with an am3 board, so if you can afford it go for am3+ or 1150, and if you can wait ~4-8 months for broadwell, then haswell will get a little cheaper, but not too much. i would pick up a nice 1150 mobo and a decent cpu, like a 4th gen i5 that can max out games for a little while, then down the road you can grap a broadwell cpu.

Will a used Phenom x6 1090t work in your motherboard and could you overclock it? That's what I would probably do if so. Then I would plan on building a completely new rig in the future. If you wanted to get a new cpu+mobo combo, I would go with a 4570 + B85 ot H87 mobo.
