Hi,

so im going to build a new rig.. but i simply can't decide between this 4 CPU's.

440€ - i7 6800k - Stronger IPC / High Price / low OC potential
380€ - i7 5820k - Beast of a CPU for the money/ low IPC/ good OC Potential/ already 2 years old.
330€ - i7 6700k - Strongest IPC / Good Price-Performance/ who needs that iGP?^^/only 4 cores
250€ - Xeon E3 1230v4 - basically a i7 6700 on a budget, can be OC'ed with new ASRock Mainboard to the Power of an i7 6700k. = i7 6700k on a budget..

Mainly Gaming, Streaming - Rendering...

I really can't decide.. or should i just whait for Skylake-X, Zen, Cabylake?

I was under the impression that the 1230v4 was Broadwell (socket 1150) whereas the 1230v5 was Skylake (socket 1151). Additionally, I don't think the 1230v5 can be used with consumer motherboards, you need a "C" series chipset.

What CPU do you have now? What sort of rendering?

Yes, i meant the v5...

for the Xeon i'd use the Asrock Fatal1ty E3V5 Performance Gaming/OC Mainboard, it even has the ability to OC the Xeon.

.. normal Video/Audio Rendering.. maybe for the Future some 3D Rendering. But i am multitasking a lot.

I think for Raw Power the Xeon / i7-6700k would be enough.. i just dont like the i7-6700k, because i have no use for the iGP and i can get the Xeon for a lower price, with same performance. Drawback.. there is only 1 Mainboard right now - the ASRock one... and i could only OC via BCLK.. which would be kinda dirty..

So i am willing to pay a small premium for the 5820k.. which is a great CPU. But it's IPC is way weaker.. not to mention its already 2 Years old.. so i waited some weeks, hoping for Broadwell-e to excite me...

No. Huge Price, small OC Potential.. advantages are that it runs cooler and has higher IPC..

.... i just can't decide.. - i'm using the Nepton 240m AiO btw.

The IPC certainly won't hurt, and may actually find some use, with DX12's ability to do asymmetric rendering. You also get quicksync support.

I'd be inclined to go with the 6700K, personally. The flexibility in motherboard choice is worth the bit of extra cost, if nothing else.

if you compare it to the i7 5820k.. you pay around 80€ less (mainboard included) .. but you miss 2 Cores, 4 Threads, 7MB of Cache and 8 PCIe Lanes..

is that worth it? I don't know ... 🙁 - thanks for your opinion.
