hey everyone, i am using an asus m5a97 r2 on my first build. i just want to double check on which drivers i should download from the asus website. should i download ALL the drivers listed, or do i only need to download chipset, lan. audio, usb, sata? or do i need to download others such as hotfix, utilities, bios, bios utilities, etc. also, i am guessing i would only download the newest driver under each sub menu, correct? if there are 5 listed under chipset i dont need to download all 5, just the most updated?

also, i am a bit confused with the drivers for windows 8/8.1. when i do this build i plan on putting windows 8.1 on there. i saw under the drivers page under windows 8.1 that there is no chipset driver or usb. that confuses me a bit as to why? what would i need to do in that situation. i have the general idea of how to get everything up and running, but when i saw the windows 8 drivers for asus i got a bit confused.

lastly, my cpu will most likely be an fx 6350, am i going to have to download the newest bios from the asus driver page? if i do, what is the process of doing that.

i am trying to learn as much as i can so that there are no mistakes on this build. thank you all very much for your help

You don't need to download all the drivers, win8 will install all the drivers for you when you install the OS. But if you want to the newer one, go to the pc components manufacturer website to download, like:

AMD chipset/USB3.0/AHCI driver http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows
Realtek audio/ network http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

Utilities like the SUS AI Suite II, Disk Unlocker V2.1.3 ( if you use 3TB HDD or up )
Maybe the BIOS, if you don't have problem and you are not sure how to update it, you don't have to.

cin, thank you for your reply. from tutorials i watched, they all went to the motherboard manufacturers site for drivers for the motherboard. it seem to be the easiest way, and i understood it, until i saw asus site and chose windows 8.1 as my operating system. i dont understand why their isnt a chipset driver under windows 8.1, but there is under windows 8. here is what i am talking about http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax

see how no chipset driver or sata is listed under 8.1 64 bit why is that?

thanks

hmm, ok. but at that point what do you do? you need the chipset and sata drivers right? would you just have to download off of the disc that comes with the motherboard?

if you do download online, you only download the latest driver, correct? (with the latest date label)
