I have Comcast Xfinity internet & voice (no tv). I want to replace the Cicso with my own equipment to get better range and save on the rental but I don't know what to get due to needing the voice. Can I get separate router and EMTA modem or do they only come in combinations? I have the 200 Mbps download speed plan. There are usually only 2 users in the home, using 2 cellphones, and/or 2 laptops or tablets. Thanks!

I would look for one of the many VoIP offerings. Google voice I am not sure if it is still free.

Most ISP will not let you control a modem that has a voice feature in it. This is a special voice over cable thing and to ensure good service levels they don't want to let just anyone mess with the settings.

Okay, thanks. I've worked with VoIP in the past and had rotten luck with it so I'm a little gun shy, but that was years ago and I'm sure the technology has imporved since then. We actually don't use the phone, it rolls to my husband's cell, the service was cheaper with the phone included.
