So I'm hoping to chose a gigabyte gtx 970 g1, I was wondering if something like the 290x would do better
I am getting a FX 8320, and a 144hz monitor I don't know if anything else is important but for the size I have room in the case I've checked that because of the g1, mostly I'll be using it for gaming other than that nothing too stressful on the pc

Solution
970 advantages - much less power consumption and heat, drivers, similar performance

290X advantages - Cheaper, better at high resolutions (1440p and above)

It's all about what means more to you.

Personally....GTX 970 hands down 😉

Awesome thanks, was wondering is it possible that the processor could bottleneck it? I was originally going with the 4690k but this ones over $100 less and I'm trying to save

An 8350 will not bottleneck any AAA game on the market. It might however, limit your FPS in some crappy unoptimized games as well as old games that only use 1 or 2 cores. But it shouldn't struggle with any properly optimized modern games

As for the GPU, I'd have to recommend the 290x. It'll be more future proof in the long run

Nope. The 8320 will be able to handle it. You only start seeing drops once you get to the FX6- series and below.

I'd definitely go with the 4690K, if at all possible, though.

EDIT: I just saw FX 8320 and not 8350.

OP overclock the 8320 to at least 4.0Ghz. You can do it on the stock cooler with safe temps (8320 turbos to 4.0Ghz). At 4.0Ghz your 8320 is literally an 8350.

I mean literally. It's the same chip
