Which GPU Should I Use?

Hey guys,

Quick question. New monitor, 165 HZ refresh rate, 2560 x 1440 Resolution, 1MS Response time. (AOC - AG241QG). Anyway, I'm looking to play AAA titles on ultra settings and get at least 60 FPS, preferably around 100 - 120+ FPS if possible. What GPUs should I be looking at? Dual 1070s, dual or single 1080, maybe a single 1080 TI?

SLI is not worth it anymore in my opinion, too few new games properly support it and it looks like that's only going to continue. 1080s are getting cheaper and will get you very good framerates in pretty much everything maxed out at 1440p. The 1080 ti will get you close to 165fps in many games so if you want to be sure you are utilizing that monitors 165hz refresh rate as much as possible in newer demanding games, it's a good choice but obviously expensive.

Its does not perfom well enough to justify it's ridiculous 1200 dollar price tag in my opinion, I wouldn't even consider that card for gaming.

Keep in mind that your CPU can also limit your frame rates in many games, particularly once they start getting into the 100+ fps range. Some games, especially older ones, will be less demanding on the CPU, and may fully utilize your monitor's maximum refresh rate, but certain others might not be able to get over 100 fps even with high-end hardware.

16 GB 3200 RAM and i7 6700K CPU. I will pick up the 7700K down the road maybe if needed, but for the time what I have will work. Just need a new GPU.

the newer 7700k not worth it. use the cpu for a few years then upgrade. amd dropping there newer gpu chip at the end of june and some time after that is nvidia volta. i would wait for volta and buy the 1070/1080 volta card.

The 7700k and 6700k are pretty much the same cpu, the 7700k has slightly higher stock clock speeds and tends to overclock a bit better, other than that they are the same in terms of performance. The 6700k is enough to make good use of a 1080 ti not many cpu's on the market will do better. It is in no way worth it to upgrade from a 6700k to a 7700k.
