PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: RPTech, which is the only vendor selling GPus at MSRP in India, albeit with insane wait times COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: India

If you do not know of a store for your country this thread will point you in the right direction: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1643019/guide-international-users-links-part-stores.html

Tom's Hardware gets users from literally all over the world. Knowing the pricing and availability of parts relative to where you live will help us (the community) to help you (the original poster) better.

PARTS PREFERENCES:
Nothing really; looking for a GPU that pairs well with the rest of my rig and that i dont need to upgrade atleast for ~5 years.

OVERCLOCKING: No SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I recently upgraded the rest of my rig to the specs listed above. My 980Ti is 6 years old and may give out sometime soon. The only vendor selling non-scalp prices of GPUs in India has wait times of 6mths - 1 year, so I want to put myself in the queue for a GPU so that I can get one hopefully before my 980Ti dies.

Solution
For 1080p, GTX 1660 Ti is more than enough, which is 5-7% weaker than your GTX 980 Ti. So, any GPU up from GTX 1660 Ti/980 Ti, would merit 1440p monitor, for GPU to be utilized according to it's performance output.

RTX 3070 is best used with 4K monitor since it's that powerful of a GPU. Heck you could even get away with 8K gaming.

Regarding balanced build, that depends on what you use your PC for. For example, games that are CPU bound (e.g Cities:Skylines, Sid Meier's Civ series), care little of the GPU you have in your system. While GPU bound games (e.g Crysis 3), rely heavily on GPU performance. 3D rendering needs good CPU, good GPU and plenty of RAM to be sufficient.
In today's world, CPUs are mostly replaced not because they...
980 Ti is powerful GPU and if you're looking to get better performance, other than swapping out your aging GPU, then GPUs would go like this (where every following is a bit better than previous one);
980 Ti, RTX 2060, GTX 1070 Ti, RTX 3060, GTX 1080, RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2070, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080, RTX 3060 Ti, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2080 Super, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 3090, RTX 3080 Ti.

So, take your pick.

Thanks for the rankings! Im leaning towards a 3070 FE at the moment. Could you comment on whether it goes well with the rest of the system? I don't want to buy a card that is bottlenecked by the CPU or something. Also looking to upgrade to 1440p in the future so not looking at the 3060Ti at the moment.

In today's world, CPUs are mostly replaced not because they become obsolete (becoming too slow), but instead of old age. For example, i have Haswell build with 4th gen i5 CPU and even today, CPU is enough for the tasks done with the PC, while when i want to improve gaming performance, i can just upgrade GPU, because most games are GPU bound.
