Solution

Here I go again, doing three separate posts when I could have just done one with multiple quotes, oh well.

Plus the two 480's in there will be really not so nice with heat. I would back off any OC you do if you SLI a 480.

Another thing: when and if you buy a new motherboard to SLI, make sure that it says its compatible. Otherwise, even if you have 50 PCIe x16 slots you will not be able to SLI two of em.

The GTX 480 is a 10" long card. You should make sure you have room before you purchase it. The GTX 480 will max out BF3 and MW3, and I am sure that it will do great on the other games listed.

I stand corrected. I did some quick searching on Newegg and found these power supplies. Much better than the one you had listed.

Antec 650 Watt (80$, 70 W/ MIR)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371044
Corsair 650 Watt (90$, 70 W/ MIR)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020
SeaSonic 620 Watt (90$, No MIR)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151095

Between the three I would choose the Corsair PSU...

To overclock you download a utility from your vender (not sure what EVGA's is called) and you just bump up the sliders 5-10 Mhz at a time (I start by taking it up by 50-100Mhz and then go up slowly from there). If you start to experience BSOD's or crashes, simply drag the slider down about 3 Mhz at a time and test it. Once you get it stable enough for games, run Furmark for 20 minutes to make sure its stable.

Agreed. If you want, you can show us a picture of your case so we can see what kind of airflow you have going. Also you will want to measure your case before buying anything.

Yes it will work, but I still hold to the old fashioned 480 ;).

Do you have a measuring tape? Just measure from where your current graphics card touches the rear panel. If you have 10" of spare room before your HDD cages you are good.

The 7850 will work.

I did some quick reading and the GTX 480 is faster at stock speeds, but the 7850 is a OC champ and can go further than the 480. It will also produce less heat and will require less power (though I will still buy the same power supply). But if you overclock, you will be looking at the same power and heat problems...

I personally would never buy a graphics card based on how much it can OC because each card is different and the card you get may not OC as well. Plus I don't want to have to overclock to get more performance as it is a time consuming effort. Neither card is a gaming champ and to max games (though the 480 and the 7850 will both be able to max out BF3 and MW3) you will need to look much higher on the totem pole than where you're looking.

The 7850 is 230$ and 210$ w/ MIR and the GTX 480 is 200$. If you want I can pull up some benchmarks of the 7850.

Overclocking isnt as scary are you might think.

If you grab a good GPU monitoring program like MSI Afterburner if makes overclocking a breeze. It has simple sliders to increase the clock speeds, voltage and fan speed. It also has giant white tooltips telling you pretty much what different buttons and sliders mean/do that also warn you about things that can happen.

Also run a quick search for an overclocking thread about the card you buy. You should find something, usually its a bunch of guys OCing the face of their cards but they usually give some doable speeds with stock fans.

Just tread careful. The GTX 460 was touted to be the best overclocker of its time and people were pushing it past 950Mhz, some got it all the way to 1 Ghz. All of the sudden those cards started dying because they had OC'ed way past what the hardware could take long term.

For a beginner who doesn't want to OC, I would continue to recommend the GTX 480. It will allow you to keep stock if you don't feel comfortable overclocking, and will have plenty of headroom when you do want to try.

And no, its not a good deal. The 7770 is a really weak card for what you want to be doing. I would stick with either the 7850 or the GTX 480.

I saw some silly high clocks for the 460 as well, but I have mine OCed just a tad from stock to 880MHz (Factory OCed to 820MHz) and it runs fine.

Gidgi is right though, if you ain't confident in your ability, you do not have to by any stretch. Its just an option to sometimes squeeze a bit more from an ageing card (like mine)

oh ya I looked up some information on that card & I see that in benchmark it beats the 570 lol If I buy another card can I run Sli of that 480??
I'm gonna go ahead and make my Purchase :bounce:
