Hey guys so I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card I'm running a 290 tri-x, but it's starting to show its age, I'd like a graphics card that's going to be able to run games at Ultra settings 60fps. The new nvidia cards are abit overkill I think for 1080p so they would be a waste in my system. Any ideas?

Go for the 1070. Won't be "overkill" in about a year and it's teh best price/performance available.

And think about it another way: is your monitor dies, will you be buying 1080p/60hz? ;)

Plus, that CPU deserves acard like this :)
I would wait and see what AMD release next month. If you are going to upgrade your R9 290 it needs to be a fair bit more powerful than what you already have to be worth the effort.

Given that both Nvidea and AMD are about to release new cards such as the R9 480X or a GTX 1060 etc. might be what you are looking for, but we won't know for certain until we see the benchmarks.

Having said that, if you are not bothered about the latest tech perhaps a second-hand GTX 970 would do the job - with prices set to drop very soon....
