Your PC only has a 300w power supply. You will have to upgrade your PSU to at least a 500w power supply to power most of today's GPU.

Think the best GPU you can get that will work with a 300w PSU is a GTX 750 Ti. which is still a decent entry level GPU, but probably won't play those games athigh settings.

You will probably want a GTX 970 or an R9 390 for 1080p gaming (both are around $330). You can use the $70 budget to get a good PSU, think EVGA has good ones at around $50 or so.

Nonetheless, would I still be improving by getting a 970 / 550W psu
I'm honestly willing to settle for medium settings as I don't play games like battlefront all that often

Honestly the best combo for your cpu would be a R9 380 or 380x and get a good 500 watt psu

R9 380 $170 after rebate

PSU two options depending on quality you want
EVGA 550 G2 7 year warranty $70 after rebate

EVGA 650 GQ $60 after rebate 3 year warrant

Anything over a 380 and you will be wasting your money on newer games at the cpu will bottle neck your gpu. So unless you plan to buy a new cpu/mobo possible memory in the next 12 months then save your money.

The 380 will play high settings at 1080p on just about any game today
