So should i get a GTX 780 for $365.99 Canadian (Refurbished) or a GTX 970 for $419.99 Canadian (New). Power consumption is not an issue.
Which is has better value? P.s. i'm upgrading from a GTX 760

The 970 should. As the price suggests. I'm not sure which is more powerful. I think the GTX 970, but unless I'm mistaken the performance is close, and because the lower power most people value it to be more. Plus it has more vRAM, which will help it perform better at higher resolutions.

That being said, less than a week ago I also got an awesome deal and upgraded from a GPU a bit slower than GTX 760, up to the GTX 780. The 780 has a lot of performance.

would a 780 be good enough to run 1080p 100fps ultra on most games

I'm not sure, i would be close. It depends on the game.

They are running Ultra on a 2k display. That has double the pixels compared to 1080p, and requires double the amount of work. So, on the same settings, dropping down to 1080p you will probably get about double the FPS shown there. (this isn't completely accurate, but it gets you a general idea). So for a game like Tomb Raider, you might well get about 90 FPS in the latest games, more of the limited vRAM was holding it back at 2k.

That being said it is impossible to say for sure.

The 970 is really about the same performance. I know that chart there looks like the 780 is certainly slower, but they are looking at a factory overclocked 970 with better cooling against a reference 780 with worse cooling and lower clocks. Basically any 780 is going to be about the same as the 970 performance. 970 will likely have a small edge though.

The point I am trying to make is that even with the GTX 970, you can't reliably play every game at Ultra on a 1080p display and get 100 FPS.
