The best one is the one they like the look of most.

Cooling? Your buddy's going to have to set their own fan curve anyway, and manufacturers are only concerned with cooling at 100% fan speed - but that's too loud for some people.

I prefer MSI or EVGA cards. And yes always set a custom fan curve for cooling.
