Which GTX 970 is better? and which one should i get?

Im looking to build my first PC and i don't want to spend a lot of money for a gtx 980, id rather get the older brother, the 970, for a cheaper cost. i dont plan on playing in 4k. all i care about is good fps and 1920x1080p currently.

I would be hesitant to by a GTX 970, as there are a number of sources claiming a memory bandwidth issue. I have an MSI GTX 970 and it does work well, but it does not take the full bandwidth load across all 4 GB of VRAM. Google and you will see.

I am waiting to hear back from Nvidia. Hopefully they get this fixed via drivers/firmware soon.

It is just a software issue which will be fixed soon.

Are you sure? I just sent a question to MSI as to how they are going to handle it. I sure hope it is. I only game at 1080p due to my TV, so I still can run Far Cry 4, etc. at 70-80 FPS, but I would rather my card run as it is advertised.

your card will run just fine, just install drivers with geforce experience(some people hate it) and your good to go. you will be able to max out far cry 4 with it dont worry

I will admit that my MSI GTX 970 2x Armor runs really well. I hadn't had an issue with it running games on ultra at 1080 p. But I will say that it does only utilize 3.5 GB of VRAM when it should be using the 4 GB it has. Hopefully it is a driver issue and not firmware. It might be possible that they will recall the cards and replace them with the GTX 980. I wouldn't disagree with that. If you are going to run 4K, you will need something better then the 970, as the extra 500 MB of VRAM will make a difference in terms of performance.

so aparently nvidia disclosed the whole prblem with the 970 and notusing all of its power. instead of 4 gb its 3.5 gb of gddr5 ram. im not sure if a gtx 970 is even worth the money anymore... im probably just going to wait till the price drops i guess
