Which Headset? - before I go insane!

Hello all,

I'm in physical pain over a decision between 4 headsets.

They will be primarily used for PC Gaming and that is what I want to revolve my decision around.
I play just about anything from open world wonders to competitive shooters but lean more towards the latter.

These are the ones I've honed in on in no particular order:

  Sennheiser PC 363D
  Sennheiser G4ME ZERO
  Siberia Elite Prism
  Kingston HyperX Cloud II

From all the research I've done it appears that Sennheiser takes the cake with audio quality, but sometimes only marginally within comparison reviews.

So, which is the best, and why?

Also, would it behoove me to get a pair of headphones and a modmic instead? If so, which ones, and why?

I would greatly appreciate any input on the matter.

I went through something similar when I was looking to buy headphones. Personally, I wouldn't buy any headphones that have the word gaming in them, or if they're marketed for gaming. The price will go up, but the quality won't. My advice would be to buy really good quality stereo headphones and then use software to turn the sounds into surround sound.

I'd recommend the Siberia Elite Prism headset. From what I've read and compared, it houses noise-isolating earcups, a high quality microphone and a USB sound card that allows noise-cancelling, earcup illumination and [forgot the name of it] sound that can be louder in one ear than the other. They look to be very comfortable and, from the reviews, are absolutely amazing.

Do you have a preference on a good quality pair of stereo headphones and a 3rd party software, also would you use a modmic for this solution?

These have been the newest up and comers within my search and, overall, look the best (in my eyes).

But I'm still left debating whether or not the Sennheiser sound quality will outweigh them overall.

Good question - I just know that Sennheiser always seems to be where people point to for audio quality, but look at the HD8 DJ.

I personally have not been able to try any models, so I can't say for certain.

I've been more leaning towards an exceptional pair of headphones and a modmic 4.0.

They sound great.

I use Razer's free software which turns stereo headphones into 7.1 surround. It works perfectly for movies and games. Although most media players have their own virtual surround options available.

I use Sennheiser HD598. I really enjoy them. I don't recommend headphones that were made for the sole purpose of gaming. I would just get a pair of high quality headphones, and a microphone. There is something called a modmic (which I don't have) that could convert any headphone into a gaming headset.

I've been leaning towards Sennheiser and have been researching various models vs. the Audio Technica ATH-M50x simply because they seem to come up a lot in discussions.

So far I'm narrowed down to the fact that I want a really fantastic sounding pair of closed-back headphones that I can mesh up with the Modmic 4.0.

Audio is definitely new territory for me and I really wish I could go listen to these all somewhere!

I've also found that the Sennheiser Momentum line has had an incredible price drop since the release of the 2.0s, but I struggle to find a lot of information on these.. does anybody have any firsthand experience with them?

I still have yet to arrive at a solution.

I'm torn between open and closed.

I would prefer closed, but with a fantastic soundstage while maintaining fantastic quality.

I'm definite that I'm not wanting a 'headset'.
