Hello I always buy HP Pavilions and need a new one. I'm in the UK. Curry's have this one for £249, at a huge reduction. but it's only a 14" screen:

HP Pavilion SE 14 Laptop - Intel®® N200 128 GB SSD 8gb ram full HD screen 128 gb SSD

Then there's this one from the HP Store with a 15.6" screen, it's currently £429 - another good reduction in price

HP Pavilion 15-eg2023na Touchscreen Laptop – Core™ i3, Blue 8 gb ram 256 gb SSD

My eyesight isn't getting any better - would it make sense to pay more for the bigger screen? I don't need a touchscreen, so that's not a dealbreaker.

The eyesight factor is significant. Does a bigger screen make more sense? The cheaper one won't hang around for much longer. Please advise!

You should avoid that one for two reasons:

1) £249 is actually the true price for that model. Currys increased the price by £150 for just two weeks then dropped it down again to give the illusion that you're getting a bargain.

2) The CPU is slow and the 128GB of storage is far too low.

The other HP laptop you mentioned looks fine although its display is not the brightest and its colour space is basic so you won't be able to rely on it for professional colour-critical tasks such as photo and video editing. For everyday tasks though, it'll be fine.

Because your eyesight isn't great, have you considered a 17.3" model although that will increase the price significantly.

Thanks very much for responding. I did consider a 17" and you can buy one for the approximate price as the 15.6", but then you still just get the 128 gb. Unless you upgrade for another £100.

HP 17-cn2021na Full-HD Laptop - Core™ i3

That's a much better option, but make sure you go for 512GB of storage option because that will also give you Iris X graphics, and a better CPU.

With a larger screen like that you can go into Windows settings and increase the scaling and text size which will make everything nice and big with plenty of room to display lots of content on the screen. You can also increase the Zoom option in your preferred web browser if you need to.

Yes perhaps this old abacus I'm typing on will last another couple of weeks! Wish me luck and thank you for replying x.

Could you possibly tell me the difference between these machines please? They seem almost identical:

1) HP Pavilion 15-eg2023na Touchscreen Laptop – Core™ i3, Blue

  • Operating systemWindows 11 Home
  • ProcessorIntel® Core™ i3 1215U (12th Generation)
  • Memory8 GB RAM
  • Storage256 GB SSD
  • Display39.6 cm (15.6"), FHD (1920 x 1080), touch screen
  • GraphicsIntel® UHD Graphics at £429

2) HP Pavilion 15-eg2019na Touchscreen Core i3

Windows 11 Home
Intel® Core™ i3 1215U
8 GB RAM
256 GB SSD 15.6"
FHD touch screen Intel®
UHD Graphics 6P0V5EA#ABU at £429

Do you know why this last one is a bit more expensive?

3) HP Pavilion 15-eg3021na Touchscreen Laptop – Core™ i3, Blue

  • Operating systemWindows 11 Home
  • ProcessorIntel® Core™ i3 1315U (13th Generation)
  • Memory8 GB RAM
  • Storage256 GB SSD
  • Display39.6 cm (15.6"), FHD (1920 x 1080), touch screen
  • GraphicsIntel® UHD Graphics at £449

It's probably going to be one of the first two listed. Can you tell me which one you'd buy? I only know the basics, but they look pretty much the same in terms of what they offer. Please excuse inconsistent Formatting!

The hardware specs for laptops 1 & 2 appear to be identical. It's just the colour of the case that's different.

Laptop 3 is more expensive because it has a newer CPU that's only very slightly faster.

Because of your eyesight problems, I still recommend the 17.3" model if portability is not a requirement. It has dual-channel RAM, Iris Xe graphics and a better CPU.

Well, thanks it's definitely any of the first two then. As this computer is fading fast, on reflection I might not have 2 weeks to save up for the bigger screen. So thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!
