Which i7 to pick?

So right now i got a Phenom II x4 945. So i am looking for a little upgrade, i can pick up 2 i7 processors both for the price of 50e, the "i7 870" and the "i7 960". Which one of those 2 to pick for gaming? Are they better than my Phenom? And how much are they OC-able?

They aren't better enough to make them worthwhile. Going from a Phenom II to 1st gen i7 is more of a sideways step, especially since you would need a new motherboard.

Well the mobo is not the problem, got one lying around. But my question was, are they better than my phenom?

Marginally. The Phenom II/1st gen i7 line is very similar in performance. The i7 is ever so slightly faster. The next tier of CPUs is the Athlon X4 860K/FX-6300/i3-6100, all of which are big upgrades.

Well, i forgot to mention that my budget is really low and i am buying used parts... my budget is around 100e.

I looked up, and maaaan, i'm going with this i3-6100 which is 110e here. What is a good mobo for this processor?

How about the Gigabyte GA-H110M-A? I'm going for cheap and reliable.
Edit: if you have DDR3 you want to use, the Asus H110M-K D3 is a decent motherboard from what I've seen. It's cheaper than buying new DDR4 if you have DDR3 already.

Yes i have a DDR3 i will re-use... Will this ASUS mobo be able to clock this i3 a little?
