which is better..2 GTX 1070 in SLI, or one GTX1080ti?

I am already running a 1070 card with 3 monitors in surround mode, and everything is fine. I do notice an occasional fps drop in some games at times, but other than that, it is good. I was considering obtaining a second 1070, OR going the route of a new 1080ti card. The second 1070 will be far more cost effective,but will I gain that much of an increase in performance? I have had other systems with SLI setups, and quite honestly never noticed much difference!
Thoughts gentlemen (and ladies)?

Go with the single better GPU, SLI support is pretty poor nowadays. Or reduce some settings to avoid the FPS dips and keep the card until the next gen of cards is out.

Well in games that properly support SLI 2 1070s would likely outperform a single 1080 ti. The drawbacks are that few games especially more recent games support SLI properly or even at all. In those games having 2 cards in SLI could cause the game to not launch at all, have worse performance, run the same as it does with 1 card, or introduce various bugs and glitches.

I generally recommend single card setups over SLI nowadays

good to know! Thanks. I think I will wait it out a bit. System is running pretty darn good, and only lags a bit on occasion on very heavy graphics games.....
