Which is better for gaming, i5 4590 or 15 6500

They are both about the same, the 6500 is about *slightly faster and is the newer chip.

6500 is slightly better (~6-8%) because it operates on a newer architecture and supports newer functions in its chipset, but if you can find a 4590 and motherboard for 65-75% of the price of the cheapest 6500 and motherboard, I wouldn't hesitate.
