Hello.
I will be buying a new laptop soon and i have the option between these two ONLY.
Note: I live in Malaysia so no recommendation here.

Here's the spec

Exhibit A

- Acer Aspire V5-551G-84552G1T
- AMD A-Series quad-core A8-4555M-1.6GHz
- 2GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB SATA HDD
- AMD Radeon™ HD 7600G + 7650M
- Genuine Windows® 8 64-bit

Exhibit B

Inspiron 14R (5420)
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
Windows 8 Single Language, English (64bit)
14.0"(35.6cm) HD WLED True-Life (1366x768)
4GB 1 DIMM (4GB x1) DDR3 1600Mhz
500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
NVidia GeForce GT 630M DDR3 1GB

If possible i want to do some light gaming with these

Not very familiar with AMD set-us but that CPU in the AMD laptop is only 1.6Ghz? The Intel laptop you have listed has a faster CPU and comes with dedicated GPU. I would go with the Intel notebook if both machines are similar in price. Hopefully someone who owns one of these or can add a first hand experience to this discussion.

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite with an Intel i3 2328M @ 2.2 Ghz and 4GB RAM. I will be installing SC2 on this within the next 24hrs, I'll let you know how it plays.

The A8-4555m can reach up to 2.4GHz depending on how many cores are being used and the CPU temp. Decent enough but the Intel CPUs starts at 2.5GHz and can go up to 3.1GHz. Again, depends on temp and # of cores being used. Intel CPUs are also more powerful than AMD's Trinity series APUs. At the same clock speed intel CPUs are probably about 20% more powerful.

The laptop with the A8 APU comes with a dedicated Radeon HD 7650M is slower than the nVidia GT 630. The Radeon HD 7600G's performance is lower than the HD 7650m. In my opinion under the best case scenario I would say a HD 7600G Crossfired (Dual Graphics) with a HD 7650m would be close to the GT 630m's performance. However, not all games support Crossfire (Dual Graphics).

Even though the A8-4555m is a quad core CPU/APU, the dual core i5-3210m is in my opinion, more powerful. At stock speed the i5-3210m is basically equal to an AMD Trinity APU clocked at 3.0GHz. If it clocks up to 3.1GHz using Turbo Boost, then it would equivalent to a Trinity APU running at 3.7GHz.

Since most games use only 2 cores, the Intel i5 would perform better. Taking into consideration quad core games I would still say that the Intel i5 would provide better overall performance because it will be equivalent to a dual core Trinity APU running at 3.7GHz compared to a quad core A8 Trinity APU running at 2.4GHz.

Everything Jaguarskx said, is absolutely correct, you should listen to him. The acer is a better machine, in just about every way ( and i <3 AMD )

^^^

Actually, the Dell would be the better machine because:

1. Even though the i5 is only a dual core CPU it is equivalent to a Trinity APU running at 3.7GHz compared to the quad core Trinity APU running at only 2.4GHz. So while the i5 has only 2 cores those cores are a little over 50% more powerful than in the quad core Trinity APU based on the difference between the clockspeed and the fact that Intel CPUs can execute more instructions each 1Hz than AMD's Trinity APU can. Most games only use 2 cores.

2. The discrete Radeon HD 7650m is slower than the nVidia GT 630m. The integrated Radeon HD 7600G is slower than the HD 7650m. Though there are no benchmarks for the Radeon HD 7600G + HD 7650 in Crossfire (Dual Graphics), my instincts tell me that the GT 630m is overall still a little more powerful.

oops, i read the names wrong, i didn't think it was like the aspire to have such epic specs. My comment stands.. just the wrong brand :p

Oh yeah forgot to mention the price
Dell=$630
Acer=$500

Just so you know i mostly do typing and light gaming e,g minecraft,mount and blade and so on
Just out of curiosity if i took the acer instead of the dell and save $100(RM300 my currency) would there be a significant performance different between those two?
