Which is better? Independent modem/router vs 2 in 1 modem and router?

Hi guys

I'm going to be getting xfinity soon and I don't want to pay to rent their **** equipment and it doesn't make sense to rent their stuff if it'll cost for $120 to give it back in the end.
So I've opted to buy my own and I'm curious which is better. I'll probably be using wired for my desktop setup but I'd want wireless for convenience still.

Main uses : Downloading/Streaming/Youtube/Social Networking/Gaming.

Can anyone recommend a setup for under $150 for a modem and router or an all-in-one modem/router?

Just like with stereos, I favor SEPARATES as well. More control, better/easier to upgrade.

And the fact the stuff your ISP gives you isn't very good.

Do you need a wireless/wifi router though?

$150 is luckily just perfect almost.

Pretty easy to get the modem setup, just connect the cable and call up comcast with the serial number (keep the modem's box)
