[SOLVED] Which is better ryzen 5 3400g or i5 8400

Hello guys so i wanna build a pc that i will use for studies and homeworks and gaming in the summer so the build for the ryzen is
-----R5 3400g
8gb xpg 3000mhz 1x8 (i'll buy an other stick later when i want to game)
Gigabyte s2h
240ssd
650w thermaltake litepower and this will cost me around 400$
----As for the intel build
Intel i5 8400
4x2 2400mhz or 8x1 3000mhz same price
Msi 360m mobo
The rest is the same but the price will be 60$ more expensive
My question is will it be worth the 70$ more for the i5 ??

Will you be using the on board graphics of the processor for your gaming?
If so, definitely the 3400G.

the 8400 can come out better in some areas, so it depends on your applications. 3400G has higher clock speed, 8400 has more cores. However if you are using a discrete GPU or plan on upgrading to a discrete GPU, then I would recommend getting a better quality PSU, as the litepower is poor quality.

as far as....is it worth 70$....that's up to you.

as was said....the 8400 will do better in multithread apps.....the 3400g might do better with single thread apps.

Edit: but after looking at the scores again.....I'm seeing the i5 is getting a better single thread score as well.

If you wont be buying a gpu then the 3400g is a lot better. Just note that it only works on X570 and some B450 and X470 boards right out of the box.
You should also change the PSU for something higher quality.

Well for now i will be using the onboard a bit for light games yeah but in the summer ill buy an 144hz monitor and 1660 or 1660ti idk yet for the psu ill search for something better but for now i only have 400$ so i have to ask my parents for those extra 70$ but i dont rly feel like it will it be a lot of difference for the i5 ?

Id goes for the I5 8400, and a much better PSU.

The 3400g will have a lot better IGPU for games until you get a GPU.

What is your budget, for the above hardware? Also, I would probably just go with the cheaper 2400g. Same graphics performance, and not a huge difference, in cpu performance.

My budget is 400$ and the i5 is a a bit over by around 50-60$ for the 2400g it will only be 10$ difference so theres no need to choose it over the 3400g

Yupp lol the 2400g here in algeria is like 130 while the 3400g is 140 $

Have you considered looking into used market, for 1st gen ryzen? A ryzen 5 1600, for instance, is still a very solid CPU, if you get a good deal. I know some shy away from used, but it doesn't hurt to explore all options, to get the most out of your money, if you are willing. It a shame that we still don't have a release date, on B550 chipsets.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of tech deals here in algeria and when there is its too expensive so i think im just going for that i5 8400 to get the most out of the gpu when ill buy it
