Hello friends.. i have an old hp pavilion dv6000 series laptop with an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7250 (2M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB).. i am currently using 4gb ddr2 ram (2 X 2gb) a 256mb dedicated nvdia video chip that can go as far as 2gb (1791mb shared) and a 500gb hdd. i intend 2 upgrade it to 8gb although intels says 4gb max but there has been some screen shot with 8gb ram working..i make use of vmware a lot on my pc that is y i saw d need for upgrade in ram..

Today my cousin brought a new laptop with Intel® Pentium® Processor N3510
(2M Cache, 2.00 GHz) with a 4gb ram(will be upgraded to 8gb). he intends 2 use it to run 6 thin clients (mainly for browsing and word processing....

I brought the idea of swapping my pc for his...Fellas what do you think should i go on with my existing configuration and upgrade it or just give in for exchange of my laptop for his own?

Awaiting your response

thanks

Based on the information you have provided, no don't go for the swap. Keep your current laptop.

The Intel Pentium N3510 is a weak processor albeit more powerful than your T7250. Your current laptop has a weaker processor, regardless your CPU can be upgraded but the N3510 cannot. If you want to upgrade your existing processor you can upgrade to the T9300 (best performance per price), but you may need to tear down your laptop. The Core 2 Duo (T9300) is superior than the Pentium N3510.

In addition however, since your laptop utilises a socket P processor, in most cases it can only accept a maximum of 4GB DDR2 RAM. Installing more RAM will still boot and be detected by Windows bizarrely, but will cause freezing issues and could damage your...

In addition however, since your laptop utilises a socket P processor, in most cases it can only accept a maximum of 4GB DDR2 RAM. Installing more RAM will still boot and be detected by Windows bizarrely, but will cause freezing issues and could damage your components in the long term. I've seen up to 6GB RAM on a GL40 chipset (also socket P like your laptop), however the laptop would often freeze and reboot. Reverting back to 4GB solved the issue. The same may unfortunately be true for your scenario.

Regardless however, I personally believe retaining your laptop is ideal with a CPU upgrade and perhaps even a SSD too (even more so as your laptop has a dedicated GPU). Of course I'm not entirely sure if you need 8GB RAM or more, the decision is yours.

All the best. :)
