I'm trying to figure out the price comparison between Apple's Mac Mini CPU:
2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB on-chip shared L3 cache

vs.

A $200 i5 3.2GHz Quad-Core 6 MB Cache.
The majority of i5 cpu's are minimum 3.1Ghz and many models for example (i5-4570, Core i5-4430, Core i5-4590S ) are even quad core.

I belive building a hackintosh is the better deal, considering the (clock speed/hyperthreading/Turbo of Apple's Mac mini Cpu lineup.

What do you think?

Building a new computer is certainly better than anything from apple from price/performance point of view. If you prefer convenience and effort free setup and operation of your computer get the mac mini. The socket 1150 i5s (i5-4570, Core i5-4430, Core i5-4590S ) are all quad cores but they do not have hyper-threading. The mac mini i5 is dual core with hyper-threading. The normal i5s also has more cache(6MB vs 3MB) and all have turbo boost enabled. So basically, the normal i5s are better than the mac mini ones.

All Intel Pentium, Celeron, Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 that starts with 4xxx as a model number except the one's that have M in the end is LGA1150 compatible. The M at the end denotes mobile CPU for laptops. Similarly, the S at the end of the amazon link you gave is low power processor. It has a lower TDP so it can do less work in a given peroid of time. The wikipedia link provides more info about this. However, if your making a workplace PC or a gaming PC avoid low power parts. Go with the normal retail ones or the unlocked K series ones.
