Getting a new system ... Looking at a top of the line 17 processor versus the Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3. Anyone know which is faster?

with what core i7 procesor there are a lot of i7 procesors like core i7 4770k 5960x the fastest one 4790k etc and xeon procesors are more for video editing i recomand you i7 it;s your choice but teh xeon is cheaper

Looking at a Intel® Core™ i7-4910MQ Processor (Quad Core 2.90GHz, 3.90GHz Turbo, 8MB 47W, w/HD Graphics 4600) versus a DUAL Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 Processors. The i7 is a laptop versus the Xeon which is a desktop. Both being used as a work station (Not a gamer). Both systems will have a Solid State HD and 16 RAM.

I certainly appreciate any additional feedback you can give based on the above.

Thanks.

Dave

You cant put a i7-4910MQ Processor in a desktop it will not work. The i7-4910MQ socket is a PGA946 and no desktop motherboard has that socket the E5-2603 v3 is a socket LGA2011-3.

You would need to look at an i7- 5820K, 5960x, 5930K to be on the same socket as the e5-2603 v3.

Understood. The i7 Configuration was for a Laptop. The Desktop was the Xeon Configuration (which I am now considering upping the processor to DUAL Intel® Xeon® Processors E5-2623 v3 (4C, 3.0GHz, Turbo, HT, 10M, 105W)). With the upgraded dual processors stated above, Solid State HD, 16 RAM, & a Monster Video Card (4G) ... This darn machine should flyyyyyyyy!!!!

My friend uses a GTX 760 which came with his Alenware. It works very well, but he has a i7 4770k but it sounds like you have an AMD processor. But anyway, which processor do you got? I can help you out more if you tell exactly which processor you use.
