Which is newer ? DS ver 3.3 or 1.3 ???

Newegg has a new version of the P965 DS mobo, they are selling the usual DS3 and the new DS3 (ver 1.3)

It apears as if the 1.3v is the newer version?

Yep. That's right. The new version, (which I thought was rev 3.3, but never mind, the 1.3 looks right) officially supports 1333fsb processors, which are coming out very soon.

Having said that, the old board would overclock to 333 ext clock with ease anyway, so I don't quite see what they had to revise. Anyone else any the wiser?

I got delivery a couple of weeks ago from Newegg on the standard item 965P-DS3 (the one that does not specify version)

Mine arrived as a rev 3.3 (as silk-screened on the board), and was rated for 1333 FSB (according to a fancy sticker on the front of the box).

I'm a tad suspicious of the theory that 1.3 is the newer one--why would Newegg be offering it at a lower price?

That said, there is no guarantee which version you'll get if you order off the standard item.

Why is the 1.3 newer than the 3.3? that doesn't make any freakin' sense. I always thought 3.3 was newer or 1.3. This is getting a little confusing on my part.

But look at the gigabyte's site. The order of the appearance is:
1.0 > 2.0 > 3.3 > 1.5

The 3.3 version has 3 fan headers and slightly newer onboard sound.
The 1.3 version has 1 fan header and the older onboard sound.

Big frakkin' deal. They both support quad-cores and 1333mhz processors.

A fan header is simply the 3-pin thingeys on the motherboard that allow you to connect a fan. Most people will only ever use 1 for the heatsink/fan on the CPU, but one could have installed extra fans for the northbridge or southbridge, so it may be useful for some to be able to connect another couple. Of course, you could always use the molex connectors (the white 4-pin ones), so it's really unimportant.

I was just saying that both the 1.3 and 3.3 support 1333mhz processors. (btw, rev 2 does not, which suggests perhaps that 1, 2, 1.3, 3.3 is the right order. Don't know) That was my only beef.

I will say this though: Gigabyte really confused the hell out of everyone here. If this wasn't bad enough, you've got the p965-ds3p (has 2 x8 PCI-E lanes) to worry about, and that has revisions as well. Grr...
