Which is the best overall LCD monitor

I've been reading all sorts of reviews looking for the absolute best.

Everything is divided in categories, but what I would like to know is
which is the best overall monitor when it comes to video quality
for video screenning and animation.

I've read good things about...

23" category
Sony SDM-P234
Philips 230WP7NS

20" category
ViewSonic VX2025WM
NEC 20GX2
ASUS PW191

19" category
ViewSonic VP930

If money were no object which monitor would be the
best of all LCDs

There will always be personal preference to be accounted for, but I'd suggest something on the high end from Samsung with PVA screen or NEC with S-IPS screen... and in UXGA.

Oh ok ...

Yeah the thing is that I would like to buy a widescreen monitor,
but I read at one of the reviews that those widescreen formats
tent to loose video quality, and that they didn't compare to the
ViewSonic 19" VP930.

And the last review I read was encouraging people to buy the
Sony SDM-P234 or the Philips 230WP7NS which are widescreen
formats. So that was confusing...

I thought you were asking a theoretical question....

My favorite widescreens, both with Brite screen, are the NEC 20WMXG2 and the Gateway 2185W...

My favorite 4:3 is the Samsung 214T.

Thats why it's I'm still doing research between what I should buy.

You say you watch animation... well, the NEC is the only S-IPS screen and will have the best color fidelity (has a TV tuner built in, too).

For your other choices, you've listed the equivalent of a BMW, Lexus, and a Toyota Corolla (the ViewSonic).

I guess you'll have to go check them out at a local computer retailer. If you have a Microcenter store in your area, that would be my first choice.

There is no "absolute best". Each type of panel is better at something than the others. You have to determine which is most important to you and chose from monitors with that type of panel.
