Hi all, looking to purchase a new CPU and would like to know which is the best option to go for?

I currently have a AMD Ryzen 5 1600x six core processor, I'm looking at these for an upgrade..

1. £180
AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 3.2GHz Base, 4.1GHz Turbo, 20MB Cache, 65W TDP, Socket AM4 Processor with Wraith Spire LED Cooler

or

2, £179.99 AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7GHz Octa Core CPU

Any help would great thanks

But you should also know that for gaming neither 2700 nor 2700X is going to be compelling upgrade vs. the 1600X you have right now. So whether either one is better than what you have depends whether you really need the two extra cores/4 threads or not.

Both the 2700X and 3600 (X model too) are compatible with that board once the BIOS is updated (F20 for second gen and F40 for third gen)

Go for the 3600 if you are gaming.
If you need multitasking in editing or similar, go the 2700X.

3600 has better single core performance and performs better in games and single core tasks, the 2700X is beneficial for multitasking due to increased core/thread count.
